SMTV: Top 5 Demons

With 277 Demons to register in your compendium it can be overwhelming to figure out which demons are worth collecting and investing in. The most important things to consider are the demons’ innate resistances, innate skills and unique skills. In this article we are going to recommend our top 5 demons with images showing original compendium state and our recommended build.

Number 5: Yoshitsune

This legendary samurai makes our list because he is one of the earliest powerhouses you have access to at level 45. While Yoshitsune has been nerfed compared to previous Atlus games he will still easily carry your team through the middle game and into the end game (possibly earlier if you farm gospels to power level). His unique skill Hassou Tobi consists of 8 random weak physical attacks that are guaranteed critical hits. He will cut down all mobs and bosses that lack physical resistance. Additionally, Yoshitsune innately learn Puncture punch which allows him to damage enemies with that resist or nullify physical damage. However Yoshitsune is does have a minor flaw, which is that against group boss enemies the random nature of Hassou Tobi prevents you from focusing damage on a particular enemy.

Number 4: Agrat

This witch earns a spot on her list because she is essentially a magic based Yoshitsune. In general magic damage falls behind physical damage because it cannot naturally hit critically. However, Agrat’s innate skill Qadistu Artifice allows her and the other Qadistu demons to do critical damage with magic. When you consider that her unique skill, Queen’s Decree does almighty type damage (generally cannot be resisted) and hits 12 times (for minimal damage) this demon can inflict some major pain! Her main weakness is that like Yoshitsune the random nature of her attacks prevents you from focusing on a single enemy.

Number 3: Shiva

While this Hindu god is not available until level 96 he is well worth the wait. The main draws for Shiva are his natural resistances and unique skill Tandava. Tandava is an almighty type magic attack that hits all enemies and defense breaks them. If you have read our Demi-fiend guide you will realize how this combination makes him an excellent debuffing tank that will easily merit a spot in your lineup for every boss fight for the rest of the game and subsequent playthroughs.

Number 2: Konohana Sakuya

If you have looked at any tier lists for SMTV you are likely already familiar with Konohana Sakuya. A DLC demon in the base game, this demon is the ultimate support character and will rarely leave your party after being unlocked with her exclusive quest. The unique skill that makes this demon worthy of the second spot on our list is Sakuya Sakura. This support skill is what the kids call broken because it does it all. Not only does it heal your party, it also provides MP recovery and buffs your team! Unlock this demon ASAP and never look back.

Number 1: Masakado

Given that we included both Yoshitsune and Agrat on this list it should be no surprise that our number one spot goes to the Samurai that combines both of those demons and then kicks it up a notch. Masakado is the undisputed DPS king of SMTV. While it does require several quests and a superboss fight to unlock him it is well worth the effort. Masakado’s innate skill Scarlet Blade increases his critical hit rate and critical hit damage for every active effect on him including buffs, debuffs and charge effects (perfect teammate for Konohana Sakuya?). If his innate skill wasn’t enough to warrant the top spot his unique skill Recalcitrant Execution is a severe strength-based almighty type attack that hits all does and does bonus damage when landing a critical hit. GG. Game over. Masakado will trivialize 99% of the battles in this game and is the legal cheat code.

We hope you enjoyed our top 5 demons and let us know whether you agree or disagree!
